Things went from bad to worse for Rotherham after Peter Odemwingie received a red card after blatantly elbowing Liam Cooper just before the half-hour mark.
The Millers responded well after the sending off, making it difficult for Leeds, but they were hit with another set back after goalkeeper Lee Camp was substituted for Lewis Price due to an injury.
The former tried his best to stay on the field but he could not recover from the knock which he suffered after Haidi Sacko collided with him earlier on in the match.
