Frankie Dettori BANNED from race after Royal Ascot nightmare on King Charles’ horse

FRANKIE DETTORI will miss one of the biggest races of his final season after picking up a nine-day ban at Royal Ascot.

The legendary jockey was docked for careless riding aboard King Charles' horse Saga in the Wolferton Stakes on day one.

It means Dettori, in his final season in the saddle, will miss the ride on 9-4 Coral-Eclipse favourite Emily Upjohn.

Dettori's ban will run from July 4 to 12, with the Sandown blockbuster falling slap bang in the middle of the suspension on July 8.

The Italian was victorious on the John Gosden-trained filly earlier this month in the Group One Coronation Cup at Epsom.

Dettori was found to have caused a rival horse to come 'severely' unbalanced after cutting inside during the early part of the Listed race at Ascot on Tuesday.

The move forced James McDonald on Cadillac to take a 'significant check'.

That domino effect then made Ben Curtis perform a 'severe check' on Certain Lad, according to raceday stewards.

David Probert then had to steady Notre Belle Bette - so Dettori's move scuppered the chances of three horses in all.

The silver lining for Dettori, 52, is that he will be free for the July Cup.

That remains the only Group One he is yet to win in his career.

Dettori's ban will end a day before the three-day July festival at Newmarket begins.

His suspension capped off a massively frustrating first day at his final Royal festival.

The jockey didn't pick up a single winner from his five rides, finishing second on three occasions and having another intended mount withdrawn.

Dettori was beaten a neck by 33-1 outsider Triple Time in the opening Queen Anne Stakes, while St James' Palace Stakes fav Chaldean was turned over by Paddington.

While the best Absurde could do was get within seven-and-a-half lengths of runaway Copper Horse Handicap winner Vauban.

His other two rides, Givemethebeatboys, who was bought for £1.1million the night before the race, and the ill-fated Saga, finished fourth and fifth respectively.
