Brighton announce new stadium name after 12 years at the American Express Community Stadium

BRIGHTON have made a change to their stadium name and some fans aren't happy about it.

The they are changing the name of their stadium from the ‘American Express Community Stadium’ to simply the ‘American Express Stadium’.

Some Brighton fans have taken issue with the name change despite the difference being so small

The subtle change has left some fans curious as to why they have dropped the word ‘community’ from the ground’s name.

Fans took to Twitter following the announcement to discuss the change.

One fan wrote: “Taking the ‘Community’ out of the clubs heart is not a wise decision.”

Whilst another asked: “Do we now hate the community?”

One more fan pointed out that it was out of character for the club to make the change.

They wrote: “Seems a very un-Brighton thing to do to drop community.”

The stadium’s name will officially change on August 1 - just days before the start of the new season.

The ground is affectionately nicknamed ‘The Amex’ by Brighton fans and has been their home since 2011.

As part of the small changes being made over the summer, Brighton are renaming their charitable arm and moving their base to be in the heart of the community.

Albion in the Community, previously based at the stadium, will be renamed the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation and are moving to a new location on Freshfield Road in the heart of the city.

Seagulls chief Paul Barber said: “These small but important changes are designed to deliver even better value to our main partner, while also more closely aligning and connecting our charity’s excellent work and its many participants with our club."

Roberto De Zerbi’s side will play their first Premier League game in the newly named ground on August 12.

They host the league’s newest arrivals, Luton, on the first weekend of the new campaign.

The stadium will also have its first taste of European nights this season as Brighton embark on their Europa League journey.
