WARREN JOYCE won his first match in charge of Wigan at the third attempt with a 2-1 win at faltering Huddersfield, thanks to a Yanic Wildschut winner.

After an end-to-end opening first half, Joyce's Latics took the lead just before the break when West Ham loanee defender Reece Burke smashed home unmarked from Wildschut's cross.

In the 50th minute, David Wagner's Terriers equalised when a great run from Nahki Wells into the box saw his cross tapped home at the far post by Aussie Aaron Mooy.

But Wildschut had the last laugh on 60 minutes when Dutchman Wildschut finished a one-on-one coolly having been played through by Max Power.

Huddersfield's home support were incensed at ref Tony Harrington who failed to spot Wells being clearly felled by Wigan left-back Luke Garbutt, as they could not find that elusive equaliser.

Despite starting the season as the early season pace-setters, but Huddersfield have now not won in four matches as they cling onto the last playoff spot - while Wigan occupy the last relegation zone place.
