But before finalising the move Maddison has been forced to go back through his old tweets and delete those bashing the club.

In two tweets from 2012 and 2013 the then 16-year-old Maddison had a pop at former Tottenham player Gareth Bale and revealed his dislike for the club.

The first tweet from 2012 read: "I hate Gareth Bale with a passion, calm down you monkey, [Jack] Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee."

And in another, from March 2013, Maddison posted: "Hope Luis Suarez destroys Tottenham today, don't like Spurs! Especially that monkey everyone's on about!"

Maddison was part of Coventry's youth team at the time of the tweets, which re-surfaced thanks to eagle-eyed fans.

But they are no longer available on his account along with every other tweet before 2019.

The England international, 26, has agreed terms with Spurs worth an estimated £170,000 a week.

And Leicester have now caved on the transfer fee with Tottenham set to pay the Foxes £40m for Maddison's services.

The two clubs are now believed to be finalising details on how the payment will be structured, as well as the add-ons involved.

Spurs have pushed through the move before July 1 to comply with FFP regulations.

The money behind this goes against last season's Champions League and Prem pot. They of course failed to make Europe at all for the upcoming campaign.

He will become the second new face to arrive at the North Londoners this summer, following Tuesday's signing of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
