Colombia plane crash: Brazilian champions Palmeiras to ask to wear Chapecoense shirts in final game of season

BRAZILIAN champions Palmeiras will ask ask to wear Chapecoense shirts in their last game of the season.

The Club won their first title for 22 years earlier this week, and will ask the Brazilian FA for special permission to don the now-iconic green shirts.

All but three of Chapecoense's squad were killed in the horrific plane crash earlier today - and as a result

all South American football has been suspended until further notice by the South American Football Confederation [Conmebol].

But it is believed that the final round of matches in the Brazilian Serie A, due to take place this coming weekend, are being scheduled for the weekend of December 11/12.

Palmeiras play away at Vitoria, while it is highly unlikely Chapecoense's match against Atletico Mineiro will go ahead, despite FIVE of Brazilian football’s top clubs have said they will loan them players.

And directors of Coritiba, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Portuguesa, Santos and São Paulo have put forward a motion to the Brazilian FA that Chapecoense will not be relegated from the top flight for three years.

Of the 81 people who were on board flight LMI2933, 76 are understood to have lost their lives.

Only a handful of people are thought to have survived what is the biggest air disaster this year.

Chapecoense defender Alan Ruschel, 27, who posted pictures inside the aircraft just moments before it went down, is one of them.

What was meant to have been an monumental moment in the club’s history turned into disaster at around 03:15 GMT on Tuesday.

They were flying to Medellin to face Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional in the final of the Copa Sudamericana – South America’s second-most prestigious cup competition.

Palmeiras won their first championship for 22 years earlier this week, beating Chapecoense 1-0 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Colombian side Atlético Nacional, who were to be Chapecoense's opponents in Sul-Americana final, have asked fans to come to stadium with candles tomorrow night.

Nacional have also asked Conmebol to award Chapecoense the title in their honour.
