But unlike scores of footie stars around the world, the 33-year-old has kept himself in tip-top shape during his time off.

Henderson shared snaps of himself going through the motions on the pitch and in the gym to his Instagram on Tuesday.

Hendo's rippling abs and muscles were on show as he sprinted on the pitch and performed a series of gruelling exercises.

The former Sunderland man's accompanying caption read: "Don’t dream of winning. Train for it!"

His legion of followers were quick to comment, with one saying: "My captain looks fantastic."

Another said: "Ohh captain, my captain."

And another said: "Ripped."

One remarked: "Looks more ripped than ever before."

Another chimed in: "Jordan power."

Henderson's future at Anfield is currently up in the air following the arrivals of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

The midfielder has been linked with a shock move to Al-Ettifaq - who recently appointed Kop icon Steven Gerrard as their new manager.

Hendo found himself on the bench for large portions of the 2022-23 campaign.

But Kop chief Jurgen Klopp insists he's still one of his go-to players.

He said in February: "He played all these games because he’s a very, very, very important player for us.

"There’s nothing…I understand that you have to think about subjects, but I cannot answer this question.

"Yes he’s important and how much did we miss him, a lot.”
