You’re a genius if you can name when each Premier League club last won a trophy and what happened in world at that time
THE goal for some of the Premier League clubs this season is simple - win a trophy.
Last season Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham managed it.
But for other top-flight sides, lifting silverware is a distant memory.
So, with that in mind, SunSport gives you a guide to what was going on in the world the last time each Prem club won a meaningful trophy (we might have used a bit of artistic licence...).
Here's what was hot when they last won a pot...
ARSENAL (FA CUP, 2020)
Only one story in town in 2020 and it wasn’t the Gunners beating Chelsea in the Cup final.

Covid meant the showpiece was played behind closed doors.
ASTON VILLA (LEAGUE CUP, 1996)
Andy Townsend didn’t exactly go to infinity and beyond like Buzz and Woody in the first Toy Story . . . but he did go to Wembley and lift a trophy for Villa.

BOURNEMOUTH (CHAMPIONSHIP, 2015)
The Cherries are still going strong eight years on from winning the Championship — unlike the first Love Island winners Jessica and Max who split up after six weeks.
BRENTFORD (LONDON WAR CUP, 1942)
Yes, the Bees have won a few EFL titles since but lifting the London War Cup in the year Casablanca came out is far more romantic than a play-off pot.

BRIGHTON (CHARITY SHIELD, 2010)
They’ve won the third and fourth tiers but Albion's only major trophy remains the Charity Shield in 1910, when Walnut Whips made their debut and moustaches were all the rage.
BURNLEY (FIRST DIVISION, 1960)
When Burnley were champions of England, The Beatles were just starting, Elvis was in the building and Fred Flintstone was giving it the full Yabba Dabba Doo.
CHELSEA (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, 2021)
European glory came at the same time as Squid Game, a TV show that featured 456 contestants — much the same as Chelsea’s first-team squad.
CRYSTAL PALACE (DIVISION ONE, 1994)
While the Gallagher brothers were releasing Definitely Maybe, Gareth Southgate was going Supersonic as Palace’s promotion-winning captain.
EVERTON (FA CUP, 1995)
The year that saw the original PlayStation make its bow and Paul Rideout win the Cup for the Toffees. One went on to be a global phenomenon, the other was Paul Rideout.
FULHAM (INTERTOTO CUP, 2002)
Championship kings in 2022 but Fulham's Intertoto Cup in 2002 just about trumps that — a competition that made even less sense than Tony Blackburn winning the first I’m A Celeb.
LIVERPOOL (FA CUP, 2022)
Ironic that Liverpool were last in their prime the same year YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul were launching Prime. Now they need a refresh.
LUTON (LEAGUE CUP, 1988)
Luton’s chances of Prem survival are probably slimmer than John McClane’s when he popped into the Nakatomi Plaza. But 1988 was a good year for both.
MAN CITY (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, 2023)
You don’t need a good memory to recall this, although Jack Grealish may be a little hazy on events. His three-day bender earned him legendary status.
MAN UTD (LEAGUE CUP, 2023)
United ended a six-year wait for a trophy in the same month Rihanna chose the tranquil setting of a half-time Super Bowl show to announce her pregnancy.
NEWCASTLE (FAIRS CUP, 1969)
Forget the Div Two titles, any true Geordie will tell you the Fairs Cup was Toon's last pot. Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon and the Space Hopper was born.
NOTTM FOREST (LEAGUE CUP, 1990)
When Forest beat Oldham, MC Hammer was heading for stardom. It’s fairly safe to assume Brian Clough wouldn’t have been a fan of his trousers.
SHEFFIELD UNITED (FA CUP, 1925)
A few EFL titles aside, the Blades’ last major trophy came almost a century ago when the flappers were on the dance floor, not between the sticks.
TOTTENHAM (LEAGUE CUP, 2008)
Will Smith’s star was firmly in the ascendancy when Spurs lifted the League Cup. Now it’s a different story. Even Tottenham might win something before him.

WEST HAM (EUROPA CONF LEAGUE, 2023)
Jarrod Bowen’s heroics led to fans serenading him with their infamous song about Dani Dyer. Even her dad Danny called it a bit of romance.
WOLVES (LEAGUE CUP, 1980)
Not sure what was more shocking when Wolves last won a major pot — them beating Forest or Darth Vader revealing he was Luke’s father in The Empire Strikes Back.
