  • Extra! Read all about it!

Before we call it a night and take a well-earned rest, let's relive what has been a dramatic afternoon in North London with Dave Kidd's match report of Arsenal's 3-1 victory over Manchester United.

Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus propelled Arsenal to a dramatic late victory on a day of raging VAR controversy at the Emirates. Rice, the £105million summer signing from West Ham, lashed home his first goal for the Gunners in the 96th minute after both teams had been spewing about decisions from Stockley Park official Jarred Gillett.

  • Arteta hails Rice after heroics

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta paid tribute to his matchwinner Declan Rice following the Gunners' 3-1 win over Manchester United.

The Spanish coach believes the former West Ham man is already paying back his £105m transfer fee and then some, pointing to his strong presence in midfield and his champagne moment in injury time.

It was a tremendous performance from Rice. As a holding midfielder, how he needs to dominate his area and to break up play. He was really dominant. And then he produced a magic moment to win us the game. You need ot have that quality, that composure and he had it.

  • Turned out Rice again

Declan Rice was the Arsenal hero with his late, late goal, and afterwards he admitted that it probably wasn't a shot he would have attempted in the past.

The £105m signing from West Ham also spoke about how excited he was to play in such a famous fixture, and how he was determined to make his mark in the game.

"As an outsider looking at Manchester United versus Arsenal over the years, you understand the heritage, the game, the big players who have played in it," he told Sky Sports.

"“I was really focused as I knew what today meant and O wanted to give it my all. The old me would have sent that chance back for a cross. As a youngster, I would have given that back to Fabio Vieira. But those are the fine margins, and if you don't shoot, you don't score.

"Manchester City have won four out of four. If we didn't win today we would have been five points behind. That's a massive margin to make up and we couldn't have that distance after four games. To go into the break with a couple of wins and a draw, it's great.”

  • Ten Hag: Everything went agains us

A furious Erik ten Hag insists the big decisions went against Manchester United as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The Dutch boss believes that Alejandro Garnacho's late goal that was ruled out for offside should have stood as the video officials were shown a freeze frame from the wrong angle.

Ten Hag also felt that his side should have had a penalty for a challenge on Rasmus Hojlund, while remaining adamant that there was a foul on Jonny Evans in the build-up to Declan Rice's injury time strike.

On a positive note, the United head coach was said to be very pleased with his team's overall performance.

I think the performance is right from us, we played a very good game. But everything went against us. It's no offside, it's the wrong angle. And it's a penalty on Hojlund. And then we concede a goal when it's a foul on Jonny Evans. It's so clear and obvious.

  • Match stats from the Emirates

Here are some numbers that fail to tell the story of a most eventful game.

  • Full time - Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

    And breathe!

Anthony Taylor calls time on a remarkable match at the Emirates.

It wasn't always fluid, it wasn't always entertaining, but it burst into life at pivotal moments - and it's Arsenal that have ultimately come out on top.

After a level first half - in which Marcus Rashford's opener was cancelled out 35 seconds later by Martin Odegaard - it was Manchester United that looked to have won it late on.

However, a goal from substitute Alejandro Garnacho was ruled out for the most marginal of offsides, and the Gunners' big-money signings made them pay in stoppage time.

Six minutes after the clock struck 90, Declan Rice steered in to send Gooners everywhere into raptures, and the Gabriel Jesus put the icing on the cake in the 111th minute of the match.

  • Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

90+13. They think it's all over! But it's not!

The Arsenal bench celebrate and go to shake hands with their counterparts, but it's not the final whistle.

However, full time can only be seconds away!

  • Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

90+11. Absolute bedlam at the Emirates!

On the break, Gabriel Jesus has made it three with a goal that brings the house down.

Collecting a clearance from his own box, Fabio Vieira kept calm and threaded a clever through ball for the Brazilian to race on to from the halfway line.

What followed was sensational with Jesus sitting Diogo Dalot down in the box before caressing the ball beyond Andre Onana in the Manchester United goal.

What a finale in North London!

  • The icing on the cake!

  • Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd

    90+10. We're still playing!

Is there one final chance for United? They go long into the Arsenal box...

  • Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd

90+8. Jorginho is on for the final seconds to shore it up for the Gunners. He replaces Martin Odegaard.

    What drama! What a noise!

  • Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd

90+6. Sensational scenes at the Emirates Stadium!

Bukayo Saka's corner from the right in deep, evades a packed six-yard box, and lands on the chest of Declan Rice.

The angle is against the £100m man, but he keeps his cool and drives hard and low towards the near post.

Jonny Evans is the nearest defender, and his outstretched leg gives the ball a vital nick that makes it too hard for Andre Onana to keep out.

Big players. Big matches. Big moments.

  • Rice has won it!

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

90+6. After much dilly and dallying around the area, Odegaard takes aim from long range.

It flies over the crossbar, but it did take a nick. It will be an Arsenal corner.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

    90+4. The Gunners are pushing.

Reiss Nelson is flying down the left, but United's defence - now marshalled by Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire - is holding firm.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd - Arsenal substitution

90+2. Amid the drama, Mikel Arteta had made another change: Reiss Nelson for Gabriel Martinelli.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

The fans think they can win it, but do the players?

    90. The lines have been drawn by the video officials, and the word has come through that Garnacho was offside!

The home fans celebrate like they've won the game!

  • Arsenal 1-2 Man Utd - Goal for Man Utd!

    88. Alejandro Garnacho has won it!

    Or has he?!

The United substitute breaks through the Arsenal defence to confidently bury a shot beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

He and his United teammates celebrate wildly in front of the travelling support, but did the Argentine set off on his run too soon?

Or was Gabriel playing him onside?

    It is very, very tight.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

    85. Martinelli sends another corner crashing into the first man at the near post.

At this point, it should be worth at least a week's wages in fines.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd - Man Utd double substitution

    83. Two more changes for the visitors.

Alejandro Garnacho replaces Antony in a like-for-like swap, and there's also an appearance for Jonny Evans - his first for Manchester United since March 2015.

The veteran defender is on for Victor Lindelof.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

    81. A big chance for Saka!

White's cross from the right wasn't intended for the England star, but everyone left it as flew low across goal.

Responding first time, Saka could only sidefoot straight at Onana without any real composure.

Either side of the goalkeeper and Arsenal would be in front.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

    80. Inside the final ten minutes, and Gabriel Jesus gets on the ball for the first time.

He faces up to his man well, and the combines with White, whose cross is too long for Tomiyasu.

  • Arsenal 1-1 Man Utd

    78. A Saliba error on halfway momentarily leaves United breaking three-on-two.

With Rashford in possession, and Antony and Hojlund busting their guts to get forward, a second goal looks on.

However, Arsenal do well to first hold United's scorer up, and then get men back to clear the danger.
