Gylfi Sigurdsson on verge of transfer as he closes in on return to football over two years since last match for Everton

FORMER Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is on the verge of making a return to football, according to reports.
The 33-year-old has not played a competitive match since the final day of the 2020-21 Premier League season, which saw Everton suffer a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.
He left Goodison Park the following summer and has since spent the last year away from football entirely.
Sigurdsson came close to joining Wayne Rooney's DC United in the MLS earlier this summer, but a deal failed to materialise.
And now claim that he is on the verge of signing for Danish top flight side Lyngby.
The midfielder underwent a medical on Wednesday ahead of the proposed move.

However, he is currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury so the club are unsure of when he'll be available to make his debut.
Sigurdsson scored 31 goals and provided 25 assists in 156 appearances during his five-year spell with Everton.
Prior to his £40million move to Goodison Park, the former Iceland international spent three years with Swansea.
He also played for Tottenham, Hoffenheim and Reading in the earlier stages of his career.

However, his most recent international appearance came back in 2021.
