RIGOBERT SONG is on the road to recovery after suffering a stroke ten weeks ago.

The former Liverpool and West Ham defender fell into a coma for two days in October but was pictured last week awake on his hospital bed.

And photos released on Twitter today show the Cameroon legend in good spirits and walking around again.

Song is such a hero in the African country that the government reportedly spent £78,000 providing him with treatment.

Adoring fans waved him off at the airport as he was flown to France to continue his treatment at Paris' Pitie Salpetriere hospital in October.

The 40-year-old made 137 appearances for Cameroon and featured at World Cups with the likes of Roger Mila and Samuel Eto'o.

Song, who ended his career at Trabzonspor in 2010, also earned a worldwide fanbase for his series of bizarre haircuts.

He said of the support he has been given: “I feel good right now. I was aware of a lot of things, thanks to the support that our government gave me in this matter. I have to thank them; Cameroon President Paul Biya and his wife first lady Chantal Biya.

“I also felt the support of the people of Cameroon, which gave me positive energy and gave me courage to get better.”

As well as playing at Anfield and Upton Park, Song represented Galatasaray, Lens, Metz, Salernitana, Trabzonspor and 1. FC Koln in his playing career.

His nephew Alex, formally of Arsenal, West Ham and Barcelona, currently plays in midfield for Russian side Rubin Kazan.
