He has been struggling for goals for Spurs, having netted just four times in 40 appearances since joining from Everton last year.

And his struggles appear to be translating to the international stage.

Richarlison, 26, is without a goal in his last four matches for Brazil.

His last effort came in the 4-1 win over South Korea at the World Cup.

During last night's match, he blazed a shot over the bar from close range after initial good work to create space.

His miss came just five minutes into the second half, with his side leading 2-0.

He was substituted on 71 minutes, replaced by Wolves' Matheus Cunha.

Upon returning to the bench, Richarlison appeared to be crying after another game without a goal.

Tottenham fans have rallied around their struggling forward on social media.

One wrote: "If anybody can get him back to his best, it’s Big Ange. We support you Richarlison."

While a second tweeted: "He’s overthinking it now.. Form is temporary, he’ll bounce back."

Another added: "I'll always have faith in him and stand behind him. a great person and has shown many times that with consistency he can be a major threat."

Brazil went on to win 5-1, with Neymar's double seeing him overtake Pele as his country's all-time leading male goal-scorer.

Richarlison will hope for another chance to score on Tuesday night, when Brazil take on Peru in Lima.

He started Spurs' first three Premier League matches of this season, failing to register a goal.

The former Everton ace then equalised for Tottenham during their League Cup clash at Fulham, only for his side to then lose on penalties.

After picking up a knock at Craven Cottage he was demoted to the substitutes' bench for the subsequent league match at Burnley - with Son Heung-min scoring a hat-trick.
