Who is Daishawn Redan? Chelsea wonderkid starring for Holland in the European Under-17 Championship 2018

Everything you need to know about the 16-year-old Dutch striker who has shunned Old Trafford for Stamford Bridge

MANCHESTER UNITED were stunned by Chelsea when they bid to bring in Ajax striker Daishawn Redan last year.

The Red Devils had hoped Redan would follow previous signings Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tahith Chong in joining from Holland.

But United boss Jose Mourinho has been left disappointed as the youngster joined the Special One's former club Chelsea.

Here is what you need to know about the latest wonderkid to come out of the Netherlands.

Who is Daishawn Redan?

Daishawn Redan plays for both Chelsea and Holland under-17s.

Redan started his career with Ajax in 2009, at the age of eight.

In his first season in Amsterdam he scored 44 goals, and then he repeated the feat in 2013/14 for the under-14s.

The striker was offered a new contract by Ajax but opted for a move to Chelsea.

What can Chelsea fans expect from him?

Redan is a right-footed striker who can also play on the left-wing.

That means it goes without saying that he has pace, but he is also powerful on the ball and an excellent poacher.

Additionally, Redan has a strong left foot so can fire in crosses from both sides.

The youngster can also speak fluent English and Spanish thanks to Ajax's Plan Cruyff, which gives all academy prospects lessons in the two languages to make it easier for them to move abroad.

What are Daishawn Redan's main achievements?

Redan scored four goals as Chelsea's Under-18s made it to the final of the 2017/18 Uefa Youth League, despite appearing in the competition late and only playing one group match.

He is currently the joint top scorer at the European Under-17 Championship, scoring three goals for Holland in the group stage.

Redan also hit the winning penalty in bizarre circumstances during the Dutch's quarter-final shootout against the Republic of Ireland.

His initial kick was saved by Irish goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran, who was then adjudged to have moved off his line and given a second yellow card by the referee.

Redan then converted the retaken penalty to send Holland through to a semi-final against England.
