Ten Hag, 53, has criticised Sancho's performances in training which saw him dropped from the squad ahead of the match at the Emirates.

He said: "Jadon, on his performance in training, was not selected.

"You have to reach a level at Manchester United every day and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected."

Sancho then responded with a now-deleted statement on social media that said the Dutchman's words were not true and that he was being made a "scapegoat".

The full statement read: "Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue.

"I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into.

"I have been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

"I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players... I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what."

The pair were set for showdown talks on Monday to ascertain whether or not Sancho, 23, still had a future at Old Trafford.

Now a day later, Sancho has deleted the statement that he posted to his Twitter account.

Ten Hag reportedly was shocked by Sancho's actions as he was trying to motivate the winger.

It has been claimed that the manager believes that the situation has been blown out of proportion.

Following the outburst, Sancho was linked with an exit from Manchester United.

The England international was tipped with a move to Saudi Arabia.

However, a move is thought to have collapsed as Steven Gerrard's AL-Ettifaq refused to agree on a £50million obligation to buy Sancho after a loan spell.

Sancho was also offered an escape and move back to former club Borussia Dortmund.

Had the winger gone back to Germany he would have been able to continue playing in the Champions League

Sancho was seen for the first time since the issue as he attended NBA star John Hall's birthday party alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
