More VAR controversy as microphones capture Newcastle star’s X-rated blast during check against Brentford
DAN BURN was convinced that Newcastle should have been awarded a second penalty against Brentford on Saturday – and let the ref know about it.
The Magpies clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Thomas Frank’s side thanks to a second-half spot-kick from Callum Wilson.
However, Burn believed his team should have scored another.
The defender appealed for another penalty in the 82nd minute after the ball appeared to make contact with Bryan Mbeumo’s hand.
And he did so while swearing at referee Craig Pawson.
While Pawson was reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, Burn was overheard saying: “That’s a f***ing stonewall penalty!”
Fans took to Twitter to react, with one person writing: “Given Brentford got a penalty against Burn last season for the very same reason you can see why he thinks this.”
Another added: “They change the rules every week.”
While a third person disagreed, commenting: “Never a penalty. It hits the Brentford player’s head before it hits his hand, would have loved for it to be given but wasn’t a penalty and we would say it wasn’t a penalty if it was the other way around and it happened to us.”
Burn was not given a warning for his X-rated blast.

The penalty incident was one of several controversial VAR decisions on Saturday.
Manchester United fans felt that they were wrongfully denied a goal during their clash with Brighton after the ball was deemed to be out of play before Rasmus Hojlund fired it into the net.
And Tottenham supporters believed they should have been awarded a penalty against Sheffield United after James Maddison went to ground following a challenge from Chris Basham in the box.
