Shane Lowry makes emotional gesture to ‘number one’ fan and wife Wendy for support during Team Europe Ryder Cup win
IRELAND’S Shane Lowry has taken to social media to praise his wife for her support during Europe’s emotional Ryder Cup win.
The Offaly PGA Tour star was a pivotal member of over Zach Johnson’s USA side in Rome, Italy.
It’s came just two years after a humiliation for the Europeans at Whistling Straits, Luke Donald’s team stylishly regained their crown against the USA in Rome.
Despite falling three shots down to Jordan Spieth in his singles match, Lowry showed his immense resolve to bounce-back and secure half a point.
The man was in the epicentre of Europe’s wild post-tournament celebrations.
And he made sure to include his amongst it all.
Both Shane and Wendy shared photos of the couple during the extraordinary celebrations to , with the Clara-native proudly clutching the trophy in hand.
But the 2019 Open champ wasn’t finished there as he captioned a series of photos on Insta of his biggest fan.
He captioned the post by speaking of his appreciation for his other half after an emotional week in the Italian capital.
It read: “Appreciation post for my no1 fan last week. Wouldn’t have been able to do it without her “
The winning week was an emotional one for the proud Irishman, speaking ahead of the event, the 2019 Open champion spoke about how special it was to be part of the tournament for a second time.
World number 32 Lowry also talked about the personal responsibility he feels when playing in the team event.
Offaly star Lowry made his debut as a rookie in 2021 when Europe suffered a heavy defeat to Team USA at Whistling Straits.
Europe will now hope to defend the famous trophy aton hostile territory in 2025.
