Basham was stretchered off and taken straight to hospital as a result of the injury.

Supporters have since been quick to praise Fulham's Ream for his response to the incident.

The American was the first player to comfort Basham as he lay stricken on the floor.

He was pictured comforting the Blades star and could be seen kneeling over him as the physios rushed onto the pitch.

Reacting to the incident on social media, one fan wrote: "Look at Ream. Comforting him as he’s lying there, that is a proper top notch bloke."

Meanwhile, another added: "Tim Ream excellent professional. Immediately calling for help and staying with Basham as the help came."

It remains unknown how long Basham will be sidelined with the injury.

Speaking after the match, Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom told reporters: "He's where he needs to be, in hospital with the doctors and the medical team.

"No-one wants to see that, ever, and when you're involved in it and it's one of your players it's far far worse."

Fulham went on to win 3-1 at Craven Cottage as Sheffield United remained the only side in the Premier League without a win this season.

Goals from Bobby Decordova-Reid and Willian either side of a Wes Foderingham own goal sealed all three points for the hosts.
