Kalvin Phillips hints at January transfer from Man City after just two league starts since £45m move from Leeds
KALVIN PHILLIPS has hinted at a move away from Manchester City due to a lack of first-team football.
The midfielder joined the Cityzens from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 for £45m and won the treble in his first season there.
However, Phillips has made just two Premier League starts since that switch and was barely used by City boss Pep Guardiola recently despite a suspension to Rodri — and a move away in January looks likely.
The 27-year-old did get some much-needed minutes last night as England came from behind to destroy Italy.
The Three Lions secured their spot at Euro 2026 with two games to spare against the Azzurri at Wembley on Tuesday despite Gianluca Scamacca’s early strike.
Harry Kane drew England level from the penalty just before half time.

But the second half was a completely different story as the Three Lions stepped it up and ran out 3-1 winners thanks to brilliant strikes from Marcus Rashford and Kane.
Jude Bellingham stole the show at Wembley but Phillips, perhaps lacking match sharpness, struggled to impress.
He had to rein himself in a bit from his usual all-action style after picking up an early booking and he was then lucky to avoid a second yellow card for a foul on Giorgio Scalvini before being taken off.
And afterwards he admitted that he is desperate for more regular action to ensure he is on the plane to Germany next summer.

Phillips told Channel Four: “I want minutes and I want to go to Euro 2024 and we’ll see what happens.
“As a football player, you always want to be playing, and that’s the case with me.
“I want to be playing as much as possible and obviously I haven’t done that over the last year and a half, so that’s one thing I want to do.”
We reported how Phillips could be offered a shock escape route from City by Bayern Munich - where England pal Kane is thriving after his summer switch.
The Bundesliga giants are understood to be closely monitoring his situation with a view to making a move either in the January window or in the summer.
He is one of the names on the list of chief Thomas Tuchel as he looks to strengthen his midfield. They raided City last winter and took Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo on loan and a similar arrangement for Phillips could well appeal to all parties.
