New No1 Andre Onana could miss up to eight games in the new year

Gabby Agbonlahor believes the goalkeeper should reject a return

De Gea’s replacement Andre Onana surprised United when he came out of international retirement earlier this season.

The keeper now wants to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from January 13 to February 11.

That means he could miss up to eight games if his side make the final.

And Man Utd don’t want to be left short-handed.

United booted long-serving goalkeeper De Gea out the club after 12 seasons just a matter of months ago.

But they could now turn to him again, with the Spaniard still without a club.

De Gea was desperate to stay at Old Trafford and agreed to almost HALF his £375,000-a-week salary.

But United shunned him as they took that offer off the table, and even asked not to join another team until Onana signed.

De Gea has been back in Manchester this week and even met some old team-mates for a meal.

But Agbonlahor is adamant the keeper should NOT return after the undignified way he was cast aside.

He said on : “I wouldn’t [rejoin] what they have done to him.

“The way they had the contract and then took it away after the amount of years he played for Man Utd, and what he had done there.

“I wouldn’t – but he is in Manchester at the moment and he’s pictured with some of the players.”

Agbonlahor continued as he slammed the club, ranting: “Shambles.

“Didn’t they think about that before they let Onana go and they didn’t bring in a better No2?”

Fellow pundit Alan Brazil said similar: “Can’t win, don’t to it because he was kicked out.

“He was promised something, why go back when you are not going to play?”

Brazil also suggested that De Gea could be being “greedy” and demanding too much money from other clubs with him still a free agent after his exit.
