England star Alex Greenwood given oxygen mask after ‘scary’ clash of heads with match delayed as fans slam TV coverage
Fans couldn't believe what the TV director was doing
ALEX GREENWOOD suffered a horror clash of heads during the Lionesses’ defeat to Belgium.
The defender, 30, collided when going for the ball in the 18th minute causing a 12-MINUTE delay.
Greenwood appeared in trouble as medical staff rushed onto the pitch to help her which saw her given oxygen.
Belgium star Jassina Blom was on the other end of the clash but did not appear to be in as much pain.
The Lionesses ace was taken off on a stretcher with a neck brace and an oxygen mask after almost 12 minutes of treatment.
Reports claimed that she was responsive and “squeezing her hand” in order to meet the outstretched hands of Millie Bright and Georgia Stanway.
Jess Carter was sent on by manager Sarina Wiegman to replace her.
It has since been confirmed that Greenwood is “conscious and talking”.
Fans took to social media to share their concern for the defender.
One posted: “Alex Greenwood has taken a big hit to the head. Three physios on the pitch and she’s not moved since going down. Concerning.”
A second wrote: “Awful clash of heads in the Lionesses game. Hope Alex Greenwood is OK, one of the nastiest I’ve seen.”
A third commented: “That was a sickening clash of heads! Not looking good for Alex Greenwood, hope she is okay.”
Another added: “Seriously praying for Alex Greenwood, this isn’t looking good.”
Other fans slammed the coverage as it focused on the injury and showed multiple replays.
One said: “Why have @itvfootball got to show Greenwood’s injury 5 times.”
However, the broadcaster was clear in pointing out that the images were coming from the hosts.
ITV commentary said: “These are the hosts’ pictures we’re seeing here.”
They then later added: “Unfortunately we’re seeing these images again.”
It was the second match between the nations in just four days, with England winning last time out 1-0.
After recovering from a goal down to lead 2-1, the Lionesses eventually fell to a 3-2 defeat after a late Tessa Wullaert penalty.
