City Of Troy officially the best since Frankel – and set to get even better
He has already been called the next Frankel by many racing fans...
CITY OF TROY’s devastating Dewhurst win has been ranked as the best since Frankel.
Aidan O’Brien’s star juvenile sloshed through the mud to record an impressive three-and-a-half-length drubbing of his rivals in the Newmarket Group 1 in October.
Timeform gave him a performance rating of 125 for that success, just one shy of the rating given to Frankel in 2010.
That took City Of Troy’s juvenile record to a perfect three out of three, but he has some way to go to match Frankel.
The best horse to grace to the turf, Frankel won all 14 of his races, including his mesmerising win in the 2011 2,000 Guineas.
Frankel went off at 1-2 for his Guineas and City Of Troy may go off similar, currently sat at even-money with over six months to go.
Timeform’s two-year-old handicapper Simon Baker said: “City of Troy’s Dewhurst win was the best performance in the race since Frankel.
“While we could wait a lifetime and not see anything in that league again, there can be no doubt that City of Troy is a tremendous prospect in his own right.
“Not all recent high-achieving Dewhurst winners have advanced their form markedly at three, but everything about City of Troy, from his powerful physique to his strong-galloping style, suggests he can go on improving.
“That makes him just about the most exciting horse around for 2024.”
Camelot came less than a length short of winning the British triple crown after wins in the 2,000 Guineas and Derby were followed by his agonising defeat in the St Leger.
City Of Troy is expected to go down the same route and should he do so successfully, he would be the first horse since Nijinsky in 1970.
