Tottenham captain Son Heung-min releases statement with fans fearing worst after injury in South Korea clash

In-form frontman is eyeing quick return despite admitting going down in pain

SON HEUNG-MIN has moved fast to reassure Tottenham fans after collapsing in agony for South Korea.

The in-form Spurs skipper insists he is "fine" - a huge relief as club boss Ange Postecoglou faces a mounting injury list.

Son fell clutching his ankle near the end of Thursday's 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Singapore.

But the 31-year-old believes he will be fit to face China next Tuesday.

Son and the Tottenham team as a whole have stepped up a notch under Postecoglou this season despite the summer loss of goal machine Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

However, fourth-placed Spurs are now likely to be without James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven until the New Year.

Both were crocked when nine-man Tottenham lost 4-1 at home to Chelsea on November 6.

Son, though, seems certain to be fit for Spurs' next game - at home to Aston Villa on November 26.

That's assuming, of course, he avoids injury against China.

And after getting up to finish the Singapore game, Son sounded defiant.

He told reporters: "We are making a team for the World Cup, I can't give up a game just because I feel pain.

"If I can't run anymore, then I can't do anything about it but when I can run, I have to give 100% for the team.

"I am fine now, I don't like to lie down [on the pitch] in the winter. At that moment, I couldn't feel anything on my foot. I’m fine, no injury."
