Having initially waved play on, Hooper then puzzlingly blew his whistle to pull the game back – sparking fury around the Etihad.

And the decision was too much for Haaland, who could not contain his feelings.

Clearly incensed, he immediately darted towards Hooper when the ref called play back.

Haaland then stormed off at the final whistle and clashed with Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as he made his way down the tunnel.

The Norwegian was spotted shouting "F*** off, F*** off," at the Argentine as he made his way off the pitch.

City’s leading scorer tweeted a video of the incident along with the phrase ‘WTF’ – which means ‘What the f**k’.

Fans were shocked by his angry outburst as they watched Haaland lose his cool and storm down the tunnel.

"Never seen Haaland this mad," wrote one supporter on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added: "Erling Haaland was furious."

A third fan also commented: "Haaland just had his Drogba moment.";

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba infamously screamed "it's a f***ing disgrace" after his side were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona in 2009.

Haaland and City had been left aggrieved by Hooper's decision to blow for a foul during the closing stages of the match.

The Treble winners were pushing for a winner when Haaland was fouled.

Hooper looked poised to blow for a foul, when the Man City star got back to his feet.

Hooper opted to play the advantage and waved play on.

Haaland got up, and hit a perfect through ball to Grealish, who beat the Spurs offside trap and was clean through on goal.

Hooper then blew his whistle to stop the game just as City had a great chance to score the winner.

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was also shocked by the decision, explaining after the match that the referee made the "wrong call".

"Obviously I think the referee's made a mistake," he said at the end of the match.

"We're quick to criticise him but he's made a mistake. There's been a few but it's a poor call. He's got it wrong."

He added: "For some reason he's blown the whistle. He's definitely got that wrong, I think we can all see that."

City boss Pep Guardiola said when asked about that: "Next question. I will not do a Mikel Arteta comment.

"The referee...they whistle after they said OK, play on. After the pass, whistle, so this is what I do not understand, this action."

Asked about Haaland’s reaction, he added: “It's normal and it was the same for 10 players.

“The rules are you cannot talk with the referees or fourth officials so we should have had 10 players sent off today.

“He’s a little bit disappointed. Even the referee - if he played for Man City today he would be disappointed for that action, that’s for sure.”

City will be hoping there is no action taken by the FA against their top scorer – while the club could also be in hot water for surrounding the ref.

City were twice pegged back by their opponents in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Jack Grealish appeared to have won the match with a goal in the final 10 minutes, only for Dejan Kulusevski to equalise in stoppage time.

Haaland also failed to get on the scoresheet after missing an open goal during the first half.
