ALEX SCOTT has been hailed as "total class" after she took aim at Joey Barton's sexiest rants.

The former Newcastle and QPR midfielder has claimed that female pundits and co-commentators should not work on the men's game.

Barton has already been called out on social media by the likes of Laura Woods, Bianca Westwood and Piers Morgan as well as thousands of fans.

Scott, 39 - who had said she "doesn’t want to give Joey Barton oxygen" - has now taken aim with a passionate message on live TV.

The former Lioness and Arsenal star said duringthe BBC's coverage of the WSL on Sunday: "To all of the women in football,

"In front of the camera and behind it, to the players and everyone that attends games.

"Keep being the role models that you continue to be to all those young girls that are told no you can't.

"Football is a better place with us all in it."

And viewers were full of praise for Scott's message as they took to social media.

One posted: "After a week full of sexism and misogyny, the women's football community really deserved this. Also the fact that it probably made Joey Barton angry makes it even better."

A second wrote: "Well said Alex Scott."

A third commented: "Absolutely this - total class."

A fourth said: "Hear, hear. Well said!!"

A fifth added: "It’s been a difficult week for women in football, but this is brilliant from Alex Scott."

Barton is one of football's most controversial characters, and served time in prison in 2008 for assault.

His views also saw him appear on Piers Morga Uncensored.
