Heartwarming reason why Premier League star Andros Townsend has changed the name on the back of his shirt
ANDROS TOWNSEND has changed the name on the back of his Luton shirt - and there is a heartwarming reason why.
The ex-Tottenham winger was left without a club after leaving Everton last summer.
And following a failed move to Burnley at the start of the season, Townsend instead joined Luton in October.
He is on a short-term deal until January and has made eight appearances with his new club.
But the former England international has done so with "Townsend Sr" on the back of his jersey.
And he revealed it is a nod to his four-year-old son Andros Jr.

"I changed my name by deed poll to Andros Townsend Sr. when he was born.
"I had a couple of years out of the game so it was only natural that I come back and honour my son and I changed my name to suit my new name."
Townsend has two children with his model partner Hazel, daughter Aria Valentina and Andros Jr.

And he said: "Hopefully one day when my boy's in the Premier League running around on the wing, he can have Townsend Jr. on his shirt and it will all make sense."
Despite the masterplan for his son, Townsend admitted: "He's got absolutely zero interest in the [football] world.
"I take him to training but he just wants to run around and fight with his sister and jump up and down and do usual stuff four-year-olds wanna do!"
