Modric has had a reduced role this season

Modric, 38, is in the last year of his contract at the LaLiga giants and rejected a huge offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer.

The midfielder wanted one more season at the highest level in football but according to Spanish outlet , he did not expect to have a “secondary role”.

With the emergence of stars such as Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camvinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, he has fallen down the pecking order.

The report claims that the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is no longer in the plans of manager Carlo Ancelotti.

However, the Italian is keen to keep the veteran in his squad for the remainder of the season to boost the squad depth.

It is suggested that Modric would like a big farewell from Madrid at the end of the season, unlike club legends Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas.

It is thought however that Saudi clubs could try to tempt Modric into a move in January.

Ancelotti himself has been heavily linked with an exit from Real at the end of the season, with the expectation that he would take on the Brazil job.

He has denied having conversations with Saudi officials over a role in the Middle East.

He said: “No, they have not called me and I live in the present. The present is very good.

“I have another idea that is not that right now. I have never looked at money, because I grew up in a family in which money was not important. And the truth is that I have money.

“For me the important thing is to feel good, it could be that one day I will feel good in Saudi Arabia, but for now, I feel good here.”

When asked if he would accept a deal like golfer Jon Rahm worth over £400million, he gave a hilarious response.

He joked: “On foot. On foot. I’m walking, I don’t need to take a flight,.

“I’m joking, everyone makes their choices.

“The world is changing. And it will change. It’s no surprise to anyone. Jon Rahm is very good. I’m not a golf expert, but Jon Rahm seems to me to be the best of all.”
