'SHAMBOLIC'

Fans rage ‘are you having a laugh?!’ as Sky Sports cuts to a commercial break DURING penalty shoot-out in Carabao Cup

Late drama marred for viewers as broadcaster switches away from spot-kicks

VIEWERS blasted Sky Sports as "shambolic" for cutting to a commercial break deep into Fulham's historic 7-6 penalty shootout triumph against Everton.

With spot-kicks for the Carabao Cup quarter-final level and into sudden death, the broadcaster swapped penalties for adverts to leave fans asking "Are you having a laugh?!"

One fan said: "Go to ad break with pens at 6-6 !!!! What a p***take."

Tosin Adarabioyo eventually slotted in the decisive penalty to put the Cottagers into the last four for the first time ever.

That followed Everton's Idrissa Gueye hitting the post with his own nervy spot-kick.

The drama came after a 1-1 draw where Toffees' sub Beto pounced late on to cancel out an own-goal opener from Michael Keane.

But viewers were seething at Sky's shootout shut-out just as the penalties were reaching their climax.

Footage of the nervy penalties were being shown on Sky Sports News - with the featured match being Chelsea's win over Newcastle.

Despite not showing the game, Sky were able to show the key part of the match - at least until they cut to the adverts instead.

One posted: "Surely they could wait a few minutes."

Another raged: "You guys should be ashamed. We just want to watch pens... It's just not on."

And a third said: "I can’t believe Sky Sports News decided to cut off penalties for adverts meaning we missed Everton getting knocked out!!!"

Another argued: "Sky Sports News going to an ad break during the Everton v Fulham penalties sums up perfectly that it's… Money > Fans."

The shoot-out was certainly full of tension too.
