Kieran Trippier’s old tweet comes back to bite him as rival fans call Newcastle star ‘Chelsea’s 12th man’

AN OLD tweet from Kieran Trippier has come back to bite him after his Chelsea horror show.

The Newcastle defender's error allowed the Blues to equalise before he missed the target during the penalty shootout.

Trippier endured a difficult evening at Stamford Bridge after coming off the bench at half-time.

His stoppage time mistake gifted Mykhailo Mudryk with the opportunity to score and send the match to spot-kicks.

The England international then dragged his penalty wide of the target as Chelsea progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Mudryk later shared a classy message to Trippier on social media, but it is the full-backs old posts that have got rival fans talking.

A post on X, formerly Twitter, from April 2014 reading: "Come on Chelsea," was found by supporters after the match.

The tweet appears to have been written ahead of the Blues' Champions League semi-final defeat to Atletico Madrid nine years ago.

Reacting to Trippier's post, one fan wrote: "Chelsea's 12th man."

Another added: "Hello Trippier, I'm from the future... Chelsea fans love you."

A third also commented: "He is blue after all."

Meanwhile, one more joked: "Once a blue, always a blue."

Trippier had been a Burnley player at the time, with Chelsea the last remaining English side in the Champions League that season.

The 33-year-old, who returned from suspension on Tuesday night, has been on a poor run of recent form for Eddie Howe's side.

Earlier this month, he committed two costly errors in a 3-0 defeat away to Everton.

The Magpies' latest loss also extends their torrid away form, with their last victory on the road coming at against Manchester United in the previous round of the Carabao Cup on November 1.
