Arteta's thoughts
The manager said: “I'm very proud of our players with the performance that they put in again, but the difference was made in both boxes.
“We have two situations to defend, with the penalty three, and they weren’t good enough and then we generated a huge amount of situations, chances and shots.
“I think it is our record in terms of touches in the box in the Premier League, and we still haven’t scored a goal.
“So hopefully that won't happen again and it's really unlikely to happen, but the team kept trying and they did everything they could to win the game and I don't think that this scoreline reflects actually what happened on that pitch.”
Hammer blow
Arsenal have lost just three home games out of 26 this year.
And Martin Odegaard is disappointed they could not sign off 2023 at the Emirates with another three points.
He said: “It’s a tough one. We always want to give the fans a good performance, we always want to win.
"It was the last home game of the year so we wanted to finish off in style, but today wasn’t the day and we have to look at ourselves and we have to learn and move on.
“It’s another game in a very short time so it’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves, we have to move on and learn.”
'Not good enough'
Skipper Martin Odegaard believes Arsenal did enough to get on the scoresheet last night as he blamed their lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.
He said: "I think we created more than enough to score goals to win the game and it was the little details and the little last pass or the finish that was missing today.
"We have to learn from it and make sure we get sharper and better in front of the goals.
"The goals we conceded were too easy, so definitely in front of the goals, inside the boxes, that’s where the games are decided.
"We weren’t good enough today.”
Gunners struggle

Bouncing back
Arsenal can still head into the New Year on a high by beating Fulham on Sunday.
Liverpool then visit the Emirates for the FA Cup third round clash before a week's winter break.
It's two must-win games against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest before Liverpool are back again - this time in a fight for the title.
