Luke Humphries falls victim to freak shot in tense World Darts Championship final against Luke Littler
LUKE HUMPHRIES fell victim to a freak shot in the PDC World Darts Championship final.
The new world number one was locked in a tense encounter with Luke Littler on route to winning his first world title.
Humphries had planted a pair of triple 20s before chasing a 180 with his third dart at Alexandra Palace.
However, his final arrow hit fell out the board, taking another with it, to cost Cool Hand Luke a maximum.
He was visibly shocked by the freak shot, showing a perplexed expression as he collected his darts.
Darts fans were sympathetic on social media, with one commenting: "That's so unlucky."

Another added: "So tough for Luke."
A third fan simply wrote: "Brutal."
Humphries had been trailing 3-2 and was behind 2-0 in the sixth set at the time of the incident.
He was unable to recover to rescue the set, before roaring back to win the next five to clinch the match 7-4.

The 28-year-old had earlier riled up the crowd by gesturing from the stage after making his walk out.
Humphries was able to add the Sid Waddell trophy to the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam and Players Championship he won in 2023.
