  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    58. The longer the game stays at one-nil, the Wigan manager will be pleased with his side's effort.

If they can set it up for a final fifteen minutes where they can throw everything bar the kitchen sink at the visitors, we could have an enthralling finish to the game.

Play is held up as Varane is receiving treatment after being caught in the face by a stray arm.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    56. Godo picks the ball up on the right wing.

He checks onto his right foot and whips an inviting cross into the box.

The Man Utd defence are stagnant but it is just over the head of Aasgaard.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    54. It has all gone a little quiet in the home ends now.

They need their team to give them something to get excited about.

United switch off at the back as it is cut back from the byline but Godo cannot control the ball when he had a sight of goal.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

All to play for in this second half.

    Wigan get the game restarted.

  • HT: Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

The next goal in this game is crucial.

From what we have seen so far, if Man Utd get it, that could be too much of a hill to climb for Wigan.

However, if the Latics get it, United could crumble.

  • View from the DW Stadium

Very comfortable for United – but really their passage through to round four should already be secured.

The visitors wasted a hatful of chances – hitting the woodwork twice and finding home keeper Sam Tickle in inspired form.

Rasmus Hojlund, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford should all be on the scoresheet.

But instead it was full-back Diogo Dalot who showed them how it should be done.

The defender’s shot from the edge of the box which zipped into the corner was the least the visitors deserved.

After their bright start – which could have seen them go in front through Thelo Aasgaard, Latics found it difficult to get into the game.

Boss Shaun Maloney will be relieved to get his team in at the break still in the game.

  • HT: Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

As you would expect, the Premier League side have been far the more dominant side in that half.

What will concern ten Hag is wasteful his players are in front of goal.

Much like some of the other cup ties we have seen this weekend, you leave yourself open to the sucker-punch if you cannot put sides away.

  • HT: Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

The referee brings the first half to a close.

Man Utd have dominated and should be ahead by more.

Wigan have threatened on their rare forays forward.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    45. Garnacho is causing problems for Wigan with his pace.

On this occasion the defender does well to block and it ricochets off the United player for a goal kick.

We are going to have one additional minute added.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    43. McTominay could have had a hat-trick already in the game.

Fernandes clips in a great cross, which the midfielder rises to meet unchallenged.

He heads it wide of the goal when had he hit the target, Tickle would have little chance of keeping it out.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    41. There is still the real chance of a Wigan sucker-punch here.

Man Utd have come close to scoring on numerous occasions.

Wigan have shown, when they have the ball in the right areas, they can worry the visitors.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    39. As long as this game stays at one-nil, we have a game on our hands.

Man Utd could of and possibly should have put this game to bed by now.

Garnacho tries his luck from distance and his effort comes crashing back off the crossbar.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

United were shaky in the opening exchanges and should have been a goal down but Theloo Aasgaard’s shot was brilliantly stopped by Onana.

But the visitors took control and quietened the noisy home crowd with Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay both going close.

It was no surprise when the visitors did take the lead with full back DIogo Dalot curling home a beauty from the edge of the box after a lay off from Rashford.

Fair to say it had been coming.

Latics keeper Sam Tickle then made a couple of smart saves from Rashford to kept the League One strugglers in the cup tie – just.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    37. Another huge chance goes begging.

Rashford smashes a shot in from the edge of the box which Tickle can only parry.

It comes to Hojlund four yards out, with an open goal to aim for.

Somehow, the Danish striker sends it wide of the goal when it seemed easier to score.

This is what £64m gets you nowadays.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    35. Erik ten Hag's side have their noses in front but they really could be well clear of Wigan by now.

They have had three very good chances to score.

Dalot's goal almost came from nothing but was a great finish by the defender.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    33. United have a free kick some distance out.

Rashford looks to have a shot and it has Tickle scrambling across his goal.

It narrowly misses the far post.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    31. For all his troubles since joining the club, Hojlund really does not look like a natural goalscorer.

He rarely gets himself in the positions to be showing that hunger in front of goal.

As that cross came in, it was a glaring miss as he headed over the bar.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    29. Wigan have a rare chance as the ball is whipped in at goal.

It comes through a wall of players and Godo has a chance to divert it towards goal but cannot get enough on it.

Man Utd counter and as the cross comes in, it finds Hojlund with a free header.

He meets the cross and it clips the top of the crossbar and goes over.

Really should be scoring from there.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    27. Man Utd look far more in control of the game since the goal.

Wigan know they have a long way back in this tie now.

A second goal for the visitors could seriously dent the confidence of Shaun Maloney's side.

Hojlund has a chance to get a shot off at goal but it is well saved by Tickle with his feet.

  • Wigan 0-1 Man Utd

    25. Another cross beats the Wigan defence and comes to Rashford.

He looks to get a shot away himself this time which Tickle manages to smother.

It rebounds back off the post and the keeper is able to gather it at the second attempt.
