He plays out of the Blantyre Bowling Club, Glasgow for indoor bowls, and the Quarter Boolin' Club, Hamilton for the outdoor variation of the sport — both of which are situated in Scotland.

When he gave his first TV interview early on in his career, it took five attempts to record because the interviewer couldn't understand his rich Scottish accent.

He also won the open pairs in 2022 and 2024 with longtime playing partner Darren Burnett.

After winning his sixth world indoor title last year, Anderson told the Advertiser: “I started playing bowls when I was 15, so I’ve played for 22 years, and I never dreamed of winning any world title.

“To lose my first world title in 2010 and then to say in 12 years’ time I’ve won six is a dream come true, to be honest.

“It’s something you dream of every week.

“With the mixed I didn’t really know what to expect, because I was playing with somebody I’ve never played with before, and Ceri Ann had been out the game for nearly 15 years.

“This was her first year coming back, having won the world singles before, but she hadn’t played down there for 15 years or something.”

He added: “It was a great experience and we won it against Paul and Alison, who I always thought would be difficult to beat.

“But I knew if me and Ceri Ann turned up and played the way I know we can, we could beat them.

“I wouldn’t say it was comfortable, but we won the second set quite comfortably. We hit form at the right time and everything just clicked.

“The funny thing about bowls is that I’ve won the mixed pairs world final and then the next morning I’ve gone out and played in my singles and lost.

“That’s just bowls — you can have 24 hours when you’re unbeatable and in the next 48 you’re throwing them all over the place!”
