Arsenal were first linked with a move for Simons last season when he enjoyed a stellar campaign with PSV.

He managed 34 goal contributions in 48 matches for the Dutch giants.

But the Gunners missed out on his signature in the summer as PSG triggered a secret transfer clause which enabled them to re-sign the player they let go in 2022 for just £5.1million.

Yet despite failing in their pursuit of him less than 12 months ago, Arsenal are ready to re-ignite their interest in the attacker.

According to , they recently sent scouts to watch a number of players in the Bundesliga - one of which was Simons.

The Netherlands international, who has 11 caps for his country, is expected to see out the rest of the season with Leipzig as PSG have no plans to sell him in the January window.

This means Arsenal will have to wait until the summer at the earliest if they are to finally get their man - who came through Barcelona's academy.

Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad this month.

However, the Spanish head coach remained coy on any potential arrivals when asked in a recent press conference.

He said: "We’re going to try our best and what we have to do is love our players and make sure that they feel trusted and they have the confidence because when a player lives like this, he can get to a level that you can never imagine.

"If he’s doubting and hearing too many things, that’s not helpful and we will love the players that we have."
