'It wasn't right'

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte fuming with referee Kevin Friend after he sent off John Terry and will appeal the decision

JOHN TERRY’S first Chelsea game since November ended with a red card.

And boss Antonio Conte blasted ref Kevin Friend for sending off the centre-back for a last-man foul on Lee Angol.

Conte said: “It wasn’t right.  He didn’t take the opponent and also the second reason was because behind John there was Branislav Ivanovic to cover John.

“It’s a pity when this happens because the red card is not good. You have to respect the decision but in this case maybe we will do an appeal.”

Terry, 36, is out of contract at the end of the season and despite his 67th-minute exit, the Premier League leaders cruised into the fourth round.

And Conte says his captain’s attitude — despite hardly getting a game — is a factor in whether he stays on at the club.

He said: “John’s showing me great commitment when I ask him to play and when he doesn’t play, because he’s helping me a lot in the changing room. He’s showing me to be a good player but above all a good man.”

Posh pulled one back against ten-man Blues through Tom Nichols and boss Grant McCann said: “The difference was they were clinical, we were not.

“We played on the front foot and didn’t disgrace ourselves.”

Blues have recalled Dutch left-back Nathan Ake from his loan spell at Bournemouth.

Ake, 21, has been in impressive form, scoring three goals for the Cherries.

And Conte wants him as competition for left-sided wing-back Marcos Alonso.
