He had been brought on to help the Owls see out a 2-0 lead away at Millwall.

However, Fletcher ended up being a huge hindrance to Danny Rohl's team.

Having been introduced in the 79th minute Fletcher failed to score but instead managed to get himself sent off.

Fletcher earned two yellow cards in the space of a minute, earning the scorn of Sky Sports commentator Johnny Phillips.

Phillips, who was at the ground for the broadcasters Soccer Saturday coverage, did not hold back in his description of events.

When asked what was going on at The Den, he said: "Possibly the worst substitute appearance I've ever seen from Ashley Fletcher.

"He came on and was booked for time wasting when he kicked the ball away for a throw in.

"And the very next thing he did was lose possession to Ryan Longman and in the name of trying to win it back he fouled him and was promptly given a second yellow card and sent off."

He is on loan from Watford.

Manchester United's fall from glory since Sir Alex Ferguson

His previous clubs include West Ham, Wigan, Sunderland and Middlesborugh, having left Man Utd in 2016.

Sheffield Wednesday held on to win the game 2-0 to claw them closer to safety.

They currently sit four points off of safety, the position occupied by Millwall.

The south London outfit themselves are teetering just a point above the relegation zone.

It was Millwall's fourth defeat in a row, with them not picking up a win since January 1.
