Mikel Arteta's side slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the Estadio do Dragao after Galeno netted in the 94th minute.
William Saliba and Leandro Trossard both really struggled to match their usual standards in the clash.
Trossard missed multiple chances to score while Saliba was not as solid as normal.
Arsenal would have been hoping to have picked up a win in the first leg but struggled to muster a meaningful attempt on target.
