But he reckons the tables have finally turned as the Gunners mount another title bid while United struggle for top four.

Cole scored 121 goals in 275 games for the Red Devils and won numerous trophies including five titles.

The pinnacle of his career came in 1999 when he helped United land their first-ever Treble.

But the Old Trafford club have since fallen on hard times.

They have not won the title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign 11 years ago.

And United are currently in a desperate battle to secure Champions League football, with 11 points separating them from fourth-place Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Cole’s old foes Arsenal sit just two points off leaders Liverpool after embarking on an incredible run.

The Gunners came close to securing their first title since the Invincibles last season.

And should they keep blowing teams away, this term's race will go down to the wire.

Cole believes there has now been a major swing in dominance between United and Arsenal.

He admits the Red Devils used to chortle at the Gunners’ attempts to finish inside the top four while they were battling for titles.

: “It’s very, very tough. Manchester United would have to win their last 11 league games in my opinion to have a chance of finishing in the top four.

“They will also have to hope that Aston Villa and Tottenham lose a couple of games too for that to happen.

“Can we honestly see either of them losing four games between now and the end of the season? It’s unlikely.

“Manchester United just have to try and finish as high up in the table as they can.

“I know there’s a chance of fifth place qualifying for the Champions League this season, but when we were playing and we saw Arsenal celebrate qualifying for the Champions League, and I say this with no disrespect intended, we used to laugh at them.

“If you’re not winning the Premier League, then why are you celebrating? Come on, this is Manchester United.”
