The one-cap England international is eager to remain in Spain next season.

He has attracted interest from a number of LaLiga clubs, including Barcelona.

According to , the Catalan giants are now less keen as they feel that his signing would prove to be too costly.

They also believe that recruiting Greenwood would prompt a backlash among supporters.

A police investigation into the footballer was launched in January 2022.

Charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault were dropped in February 2023.

This came after the “withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.

Last summer it was decided that Greenwood would continue his career away from Old Trafford following an internal investigation.

At the end of the season his Man Utd contract will have one year remaining.

But the Red Devils will possess an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

In addition to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in Greenwood.

Man Utd chiefs John Murtough and Matt Hargreaves were spotted in the Barcelona this week.

The duo met up with Barca’s sporting director Deco, as well as CAA Base agents, Frank Tramboli and Fede Massa.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas recently declared that he “does not care” about Greenwood’s past.

He said: “He was not condemned [found guilty] so I do not care.

“If he was not condemned here, why would we condemn him?

“Maybe the circumstances have made it easier for him to come [to Getafe] but he’s a great player and I have got no other comments to make.

“He’s doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and he continues to stay in Spanish football because that’s always good for us.”
