During this week's action in Birmingham, however, there was an unusual change.

Instead of the usual clean house style, the players' names and scores momentarily appeared in bulky white typeface on a black background.

The change occurred during Gerwyn Price's quarter-final against Michael Smith.

Noticing the change, a fan tweeted: "The scoreboard breaks down yet again in the Premier league of darts."

While a second wrote: "Did the @SkySports on-screen graphics just change to a totally different style in the middle of a match, or am I seeing things?"

To which a third explained: "On-screen graphics failed as usual so they switched to the large scoreboard the crowd see."

A fourth fumed: "What is that ridiculous black/white scoreboard on the screen in the Premier league? Truly awful.

"Sack the design team and please restore the original."

And another added: "Tell Sky to fix their scoreboard even annoying on my dodgy firestick."

Smith went on to beat Price 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals at Utilita Arena.
