Templegate's Grand National runner-by-runner guide

NOBLE YEATS 3

NOBLE hope. Won in 2022 and another cracker when fourth last year. Has been hurdling this season with success and will run well again despite his big weight.

NASSALAM 3

NICE Nass. Even more rain would help this Welsh National winner who loves it bottomless. Has more weight than he deserves but stays and has place claims.

COKO BEACH 2

I SHOULD Coko. Likes these fences thanks to a second in the Becher but doesn’t stay.

CAPODANNO 2

NO thanks. He travelled well for a long way last year before being pulled up at the final fence. May settle better in the soft ground but high in the weights.

I AM MAXIMUS 4

MAX a factor. Showed his staying power when winning the Irish National and has top jockey Paul Townend on board. Likes it soft and should be right there.

MINELLA INDO 3

IN the hunt. Class act who won Gold Cup in 2021 and is an excellent jumper. Is fresh having missed the Festival and has Rachael Blackmore on board. Place hope.

CORACH RAMBLER 4

RAMBLE on. Defending champ has a fair weight and ran a cracker when third in the Gold Cup. Every chance if the Festival hasn’t left its mark.

JANIDIL 1

DIL nil. Has had his moments but all over shorter trips and is out of form.

STATTLER 3

LER we go. Not the force he was but stays and has a fair weight. Has run well on soft and can’t be dismissed each-way.

MAHLER MISSION 4

ON A MISSION. Strong stayer who was a good second in the Coral Cup at Newbury and looks made for a marathon. Likes it soft and jumps well. On the shortlist.

DELTA WORK 4

DELTA works. Third in 2022 National and unlucky last year. Likes soft, has lots of stamina and a top jockey. Solid each-way.

FOXY JACKS 1

JACK only alright. Has lots of stamina and jumps well but all his best form has come at lower levels.

GALVIN 2

GAL no pal. Fell at the first last year but is usually a solid jumper. Has stamina but has been out of sorts for a while.

FAROUK D’ALENE 1

LEAVE Alene. Has two chase falls on his CV which isn’t ideal and poor over hurdles last time. Hard to fancy.

ELDORADO ALLEN 1

SHUT Dor. A good horse in his day but that was a while ago. Largely out of form this season, poor last time, big ask.

AIN’T THAT A SHAME 2

REAL Shame. Was midfield in this last year and has more weight this time. Likes soft but his amateur rider doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

VANILLIER 4

VAN motors. Finished like a train when a cracking second last year. Is back from only 4lb higher and has won on soft ground. Good chance again.

MR INCREDIBLE 4

YES Mister. Real stayer who was second in the Midlands National in the mud. Saddle slipped in the race last year and no surprise to see him place.

RUN WILD FRED 1 - NON-RUNNER

FRED bare. Fell when fancied in 2022 National and comes here in poor form. This looks a tall order.

LATENIGHTPASS 3

DON’T Pass. Won the Foxhunter over these fences. Fit from hurdles and place chance for husband and wife team.

MINELLA CROONER 1

CROONER flat. Won in the mud before Christmas but has been poor since. Likes soft ground but needs to raise his game and not certain to stay.

ADAMANTLY CHOSEN 2

NOT Chosen. Another Willie Mullins runner who stays well and won a minor race last time. May not want it very testing and this is tougher.

MAC TOTTIE 2

BIG Mac. Has won the Topham and Grand Sefton over these fences over shorter trips and won on his last run here. Likes soft but not guaranteed to stay.

CHEMICAL ENERGY 2

LOW Energy. Second in the National Hunt Chase last year so stays well. Recent form has been poor and he needs to bounce back on ground he hasn’t liked before.

LIMERICK LACE 3

STRAIGHT Lace. Backed since Mark Walsh chose him from the JP McManus team. In cracking form over shorter and likes it soft. Has to prove her stamina but one to consider.

MEETINGOFTHEWATERS 4

WATER works. Finished strongly when third in the Ultima and jumps well. Likes soft ground and looks on very fair weight. Capable of improvement and looks a major player.

THE GOFFER 2

OFF Goff. Has good form in a big field and ran well in the Ultima despite looking rusty after a break. Good jumper but better around two and a half miles.

ROI MAGE 3

SAGE Mage. Looked like he may win at one point last year before fading into seventh. Is off 2lb lower this time and he likes it soft. You have to worry about him staying again but he’ll run well.

GLENGOULY 2

GLEN when. Respected coming from Willie Mullins but didn’t fire last time and his best form has come over shorter trips. Likely to run out of petrol.

GALIA DES LITEAUX 3

LIT up. From in-form Skelton stable and has some good form this season. She shapes as though this longer trip will help and could hit the frame.

PANDA BOY 5

Trainer Martin Brassil has a good National record and has laid him out for this. Will love this trip and has a handy weight. Caught the eye over hurdles last time and can run a mighty race.

EKLAT DE RIRE 1

RIRE in rear. Has been struggling for a while including off this handicap mark at Cheltenham. Impossible to fancy.

CHAMBARD 3 - NON RUNNER

HARD Bard. Has won the Becher Chase ove theser fences in mud and trainer Venetia Williams has had a good season. Looks overpriced.

KITTY’S LIGHT 3

BRIGHT Light. Real stayer who won the Scottish National and always puts in full effort. Testing ground is a worry as he didn’t like it at Cheltenham last time. On a fair weight if it dries a bit.

Templegate's Grand National tip

BEAR with PANDA BOY in the £1million Grand National (4.00 Aintree).

Trainer Martin Brassil knows how to win the world’s biggest jumps race and has long aimed his eight-year-old at today.

He showed his staying power with a good fifth in last year’s Grand National and is a stronger horse this time.

He caught the eye when finishing like a train over hurdles at Leopardstown last time and comes here nice and fresh.

Meetingofthewaters, I Am Maximus and Mr Incredible stand out in a strong Willie Mullins team while Delta Work and Mahler Mission can figure too.

Defending champ Corach Rambler has every chance if he’s over the exertions of his Cheltenham Gold Cup third.
