Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has lost £2million after his two sports bars failed to prove successful with fans, closing just a year after they opened

The Belgian defender opened up the bars in his home country just before the 2014 World Cup in Brussels and Antwerp

VINCENT KOMPANY is nursing the mother of all hangovers…after running up a £2MILLION bar tab.

The Manchester City skipper hasn’t developed a raging thirst but lost the cash on two failed cafes.

De Rijkste Belgen magazine revealed: “Many people came in but not enough.

“The locations were good but rent was high. There were high energy bills and a lot of staff.”

According to his consultant on the project Jan Oppens, Kompany always dreamt of owning his own sports bar.

He added: "He didn't want the interior of an Irish pub or an American sports bar. He wanted the lounge feeling, a place were everybody could relax."

It wasn't your typical sports bar though, Oppens said two years ago: "It's an interactive pub too. You can pay with your smartphone, tweets on the pub pop-up immediately on the screens and customers can also play video games."

The pub was filled with memorabilia from Kompany's career that included football boots and match day shirts, and jerseys of players he's faced, which include Carlos Tevez, Raphael Varane and Roberto Carlos.
