And it was India who emerged victorious by seven wickets.

The result saw them book their place in the Super 8s, having also beaten Pakistan in their previous game.

However, there was controversy earlier in the match.

That’s because the USA conceded five penalty runs against India.

The hosts exceeded their 60 seconds between overs for the third time in the game.

And they were hit with the penalty as punishment by match officials.

The decision was in line with cricket rules and therefore correct.

Former England star Liam Plunkett said: “That’s devastating for the USA. Five runs is massive in this game and on this pitch.”
