Rutter, 26, was judged to have missed one of two shots but insisted that she had not missed the mark.

Replays showed she had clipped the skeet but Olympic rules do not allow decisions to be overturned.

Fans took to social media to complain about the judging.

One wrote: "That is so grossly unfair for Amber Jo Rutter. She hit them both.

"She loses out on a gold medal thanks to incompetent judging."

Another posted: "Surely #GBR Amber Rutter has been absolutely robbed there? That's so wrong.

"How can we all see in a replay a few seconds later that she's hit the target, yet they don't give her the point. #TeamGB #Paris2024."

A third said: "Amber Rutter cheated out of Gold. Clear hit."

Rutter was two shots behind Chadid but closed the gap to take the event to a shoot-out.

The women traded blows before Rutter was unfairly handed a miss.

That gave Chadid, 34, the opportunity to win gold with two hits and she held her nerve.

It was Chile's first ever shooting medal at the Games.
