The ambitious Scandinavian is understood to be excited about the possibility of playing at the Theatre of Dreams on a bumper contract.

But that dream move will only happen if United get somewhere close to hitting Burnley’s asking price.

The Clarets will demand up to £30MILLION for Berge with United eyeing a bid for the Norwegian.

The Old Trafford club are already understood to have made contact with Berge’s representatives.

Burnley, following relegation from the Premier League, would be willing to sell the 26-year-old holding midfielder.

But despite dropping into the Championship, the Turf Moor outfit will refuse to sell him for cheap.

SunSport understands that United would be prepared to fork out £20m for Norway international.

Berge only signed for Burnley last summer in a £12m deal from Sheffield United.

Burnley, now bossed by Scott Parker after Vincent Kompany took over at Bayern Munich, will want to hold out for their £30m asking price.

They are under no pressure to sell given that they have a £100m parachute payment to rely on.

Berge became a stand-out performer despite his side’s vain bid to stay up last term, having also spent two seasons in the Prem at Bramall Lane.

Berge, big mates with star international team-mates Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, has become a surprise alternative target for the Red Devils.

That comes after the Manchester giants' refusal to meet PSG’s valuation of £51m for Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte.

Berge could now be considered an experienced Prem player after making 66 appearances across three separate seasons for Sheffield United and Burnley.

The midfielder has managed three goals and four assists in that time.

On the international stage, Berge has represented Norway 46 times - captaining his country on two occasions.
