Fans say ‘Onana needs to drop this gimmick’ as Man Utd keeper brings back his old antics in Community Shield shootout
It's the second time this summer Onana has been criticised for the same antics
MANCHESTER UNITED fans were left red-faced after watching Andre Onana’s attempts at mind games in the Community Shield shootout.
The Red Devils rued missed chances in their 1-1 draw, before losing 7-6 on penalties to Pep Guardiola’s side at Wembley.
Manuel Akanji hit the winning spot-kick after Jonny Evans had skied his effort over the bar, ensuring the champions avoided a second consecutive Wembley loss to the FA Cup winners.
United substitute Alejandro Garnacho appeared to have won it courtesy of a stunning solo goal with 10 minutes of normal time remaining.
But Man City regained their composure and found an equaliser through a Bernardo Silva header in the 89th minute to bring the match to penalties.
During the spot kicks, Red Devils goalie Onana was spotted trying his best to put off Erling Haaland and several of his team-mates.
The Cameroon ace took a step to his right and then began pointing at the huge space to his left, almost daring the Norwegian ace to shoot there.
Onana, who only saved Silva’s first penalty, continued to throw his arms in that direction as the ice cool Haaland strode forwards to take his kick.
However, the United stopper’s antics failed to have the desired effect as he dived the way opposite way and Haaland slotted home in the direction he was pointing.
This comes as Onana was found guilty of the same antics in United’s preseason penalty shoot-out exhibition against Arsenal in LA last month.
