AN OLYMPIAN who's gold medal broke has issued a desperate plea to the IOC to replace it.

Lynn Williams, a member of the United States women's team who won the football tournament at the Paris 2024 Games, has admitted she might be at fault for the break.

In a video, she showed how it is now impossible to put the medal around her neck.

She also joked that it now resembles the "world's most expensive coaster."

Williams was understandably proud as punch with her achievement, with videos capturing her joyously swinging her medal in the air following USA's triumph over Brazil in the final in Paris.

But her memento is now badly dented after she accidentally dropped it while celebrating with her team-mates.

Revealing the damage on her TikTok, the Gotham FC forward said: "How did I get the world's most expensive coaster?"

She went on to explain how she had been swinging the medal around, but added: "Ironically, that's not how it broke. I'm sure it didn't help but that's not how it broke."

Explaining the moment the medal perished, she said: "I had it on my shoulder like a little purse and I was just jumping dancing and I jumped down and it just fell off.

"Everyone was dancing and I was roaming around trying to get my medal off the ground.

"It has a dent now so it's definitely one of a kind and the little bar is gone, so I don't know what happened, the bar got loose and fell out."

Williams, 31, said she thought the medals should have been more sturdy.

She has now been in contact with the IOC about getting a replacement but is still awaiting their decision.

The veteran striker is hoping a shiny new gold medal will appear in her mailbox in the coming weeks.

But she won't be too downhearted if the IOC reject her request.

She said: "If not, honestly I think it's a cool funny story."
