An unmarked Joao Pedro headed home Brighton’s winner

Danny Welbeck netted his 100th career goal before Amad Diallo equalised for the visitors.

Man United were further frustrated after Joshua Zirkzee’s offside saw a potential winning goal ruled out.

To make matters even worse, Erik ten Hag‘s side failed to hold on to a draw as Joao Pedro headed in a later winner.

In the build-up to the decisive goal, substitute Antony failed to win the ball off Simon Adingra on the edge of the Man United box.

The ball was then recycled back to the winger, who crossed in for Pedro to head home.

Ferdinand was left unimpressed by Antony’s attempt to win the ball, which ultimately cost his side.

The club legend told TNT Sports: “He has to smash him there, he has to go through that and take everything.

“Antony with a powder puff tackle there.

A second commented: “Rio’s ‘powder puff’ dig is brutal haha.”

A third added: “Antony has to do better for sure.”

Ferdinand also put some blame on summer signing Matthijs de Ligt and Scott McTominay for leaving the matchwinner unmarked at the back post.

He added: “Completely and utterly unmarked.

“McTominay and De Ligt look at each other to say, ‘where’s my left back?

“I don’t know what’s going on on the left-hand side of the defence.”
