TODD BOEHLY may be struggling to win over doubters at Chelsea after another shaky season start.

But one thing he cannot be accused of is being tight-fisted.

Moises Caicedo cost Chelsea £115m – but has still not found his feet at Stamford Bridge

The Blues’ baseball-loving chairman has been front-and-centre of his Stamford Bridge revolution following 2022’s £4.25billion takeover.

Boehly has already worked his way through five managers, including interims.

And the American is hoping it will be sixth-time lucky with Italian maverick Enzo Maresca.

However, Boehly’s backroom business pales in comparison with the amount of players he’s signed.

Since the takeover, Chelsea have snapped up no less than 42 names on permanent deals.

Some arrived with big reputations, while others are yet to make their mark in the beautiful game.

And in total, Boehly has splashed out £1.245bn on transfer fees.

However, based on current valuations, it looks like the majority of Chelsea’s signings have not been bargains.

That’s because just TEN of the 42 players have a higher value than the fee that was paid for them.

According to Transfermarkt, the current value of Chelsea’s 42 signings comes to £874m.

That means Boehly has overspent by a whopping £371m.

It could explain why he has parted ways with several fan favourites including Conor Gallagher.

While bright academy sparks like Ian Maatsen have also been sacrificed to the Profit and Sustainability gods.

Chelsea have already slipped to two defeats in their first five matches under Maresca.

And with more signings on the way in South American wonderkids Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, Boehly is unlikely to put the chequebook down any time soon.
