Happy Higgins
John Higgins was on the brink of defeat in round one in Wuhan but managed to claw his way back despite being down 3-0 and then 4-2 to Fan Zhengyi.
Higgins, who eventually won 5-4, again praised his new cue after his previous one was wrecked at an airport.
"I was going nowhere after Saudi Arabia with my old cue. My game was in bad shape," he said.
"It maybe took some divine intervention, I don’t know what it was. It made me swap equipment and it seems to have given me a lease of life.
"Who knows how long it will last but today it seems good," said 31-time ranking event winner Higgins.
“He could have won 5-2 today, but ran out of position. There always seems to be one shot among the mere mortals of the game that you have to do to get over that hurdle.
"Fan didn’t manage and then I managed to go 4-3 down and stay in the game. I was delighted to win."
Home hero marches on
Chinese superstar Ding Junhui laid down a marker on home soil during day two of the Wuhan open.
Ding, a legend in his homeland, took on compatriot Xu Si.
The 37-year-old demolished Xu 5-0, booking a clash with fellow Chinese potter Yuan Sijun.
Shaun Murphy latest
The 2005 snooker world champion Shaun Murphy sealed safe progression to the round of 32 in Wuhan earlier today.
Murphy, 42, defeated Anthony Hamilton 5-3 to book a clash with Thai star Noppon Saengkham.
Following his win, Murphy said: "I don’t think anyone can swamp Anthony. He knows too much and is too clever. He has every shot in the book and I have vast amounts of respect for him.
"There were moments in the match where we both produced brilliance and moments where we both produced garbage.
"In the end I’m delighted to be through."
More John Higgins reaction
Snooker legend John Higgins has admitted that today's 5-4 comeback win over Fan Zhengyi could easily have gone the other way.
The Scot said: "He could have won 5-2 today, but ran out of position.
"There always seems to be one shot among the mere mortals of the game that you have to do to get over that hurdle.
"Fan didn’t manage and then I managed to go 4-3 down and stay in the game. I was delighted to win."
Higgins on amazing comeback
John Higgins spoke after his amazing comeback from 2-0 and 4-2 down to Fan Zhengyi in Wuhan.
Referencing his old cue, which recently got soaked into disrepair in Paris, he said: "I was going nowhere after Saudi Arabia with my old cue. My game was in bad shape.
"It maybe took some divine intervention, I don’t know what it was.
"It made me swap equipment and it seems to have given me a lease of life. Who knows how long it will last but today it seems good."
Higgins' return to form
John Higgins' cue was left in ruins during a torrential Parisian downpour last month.
While sportsmen can be fiercely superstitious, the subsequent cue change has not knocked the Scot off his stride.
He recently surged to reach the British Open final, falling to Mark Selby at the final hurdle.
Higgins then produced a brilliant comeback today, beating Chinese home hopeful Fan Zhengyi 5-4, despite having trailed 3-0 and 4-2.
Major star's absence explained
World No3 Mark Allen had been due to play Jamie Rhys Clarke in Wuhan today.
Clarke was given a walkover, however, after Allen withdrew from the tournament.
Explaining his decision on social media prior to the event, the Northern Irishman wrote: "I’d like to pass on my apologies to world snooker, the Chinese promoter, my sponsors and the Chinese fans but I have had to withdraw from the upcoming Wuhan open due to a family illness.
"I hope to be back playing come Belfast but at this time I have to prioritise my family."
More from McGill
Anthony McGill had plenty to say after his 5-4 comeback win over Mostafa Dorgham at the Wuhan Open.
After booking a round of 32 clash with Judd Trump, he added: "I'm playing better than the results.
"I definitely have a game there, sometimes I'm not always allowed to bring it out but I just have to stay patient. I've got to remind myself that patience is the key.
"I'm trying to change a couple of things, which I'll keep to myself, but I feel as though I have a good game. I can obviously be better, but I think I'll be alright and things will pick up."
Anthony McGill reacts
Scottish star Anthony McGill came back from 4-2 down against Mostafa Dorgham earlier to set up a round of 32 clash with Judd Trump at the Wuhan Open.
Following his comeback McGill, 33, said: "I thought I played well the full match.
"It was just the way the balls went, sometimes they don't let you play. To be fair to Mostafa, I thought he played amazing.
"His safety play was incredible. I couldn't get too much out of him.
"As soon as I was allowed to flow a bit I played well, but I was always playing well."
