He was sensational in the opening session, taking a 7-1 lead into the evening.

And he needed just four more frames to get over the line, sealing it with his first century of the week.

Winning the silverware is obviously the most important part.

But Kyren Wilson also pockets a cool £100,000 in prize money for winning the Northern Ireland Open. Decent.

  • 'Privilege'

Kyren Wilson hadn't experienced the one-table set-up in Belfast.

But he was blown away by the atmosphere, ranking it one of the best he's experienced.

He said: “Judd summed it up perfectly. I’ve not had the privilege of sampling this amazing atmosphere and venue. The fans have been amazing.

“Yeah it’s amazing. What Judd’s achieving recently is inspiring. To be as dominant as he has been with the standard on tour these days is phenomenal. I don’t know where he gets the energy from.”

  • Knuckling down

He admitted he was looking forward to a pint of Guinness after securing his win.

But it's likely it won't be a huge party

In a chat with SunSport, Wilson admitted he had to knuckle down for the season having really celebrated his worlds win.

He told SunSport: “I was mostly enjoying a few late nights. I did not know when to rein it in and stop celebrating.

“I knew I had a very, very busy schedule coming up so I wanted to keep celebrating.

“You get that opportunity only once of being a first-time world champion – so I wanted to enjoy it as long as I could.

“I ended up at a few late-night parties. Drinking far too much.

“My wife Sophie turned to me and said: ‘It’s time to rein it in now. Stop searching for the high through alcohol – and instead get that high by winning again.’ “I’ve got my head back in the game now.

“At one point, I ended up at a house party until 7am and I didn’t even know the person (who owned it). I was there on my own."

  • SPOTY shout?

A couple of successful players battling out this final.

Any of them a shout for Sports Personality of the Year?

Well, on the long, long list of runners and riders priced up by Sky Bet, neither Judd nor Kyren are included. Ouch.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is a 40/1 shot, representing the sport.

  • Touching moment

Kyren's young boys were quick onto the floor to congratulate dad on his big win.

But the pair were equally quick across the floor to hug Judd Trump and commiserate him on defeat.

You could tell it meant a lot to Trump, too. They even admitted after the match: "It's nice to be nice."

  • Quarters run

He came up short tonight, admitting Wilson was too strong for him.

But Judd Trump's remarkable consistency simply has to be applauded.

Incredibly this tournament was his FIFTEENTH consecutive tournament where he's reached the last eight!

  • And Judd?

Well he'll need to starve this week as he only gets £45,000!

I jest, of course. It's not a bad second prize!

Although, he did call on Eddie Hearn and those in charge to put a little more into the kitty for players.

Speaking ahead of the final, he said: “He (Hearn) can put it on pay-per-view if he wants… get a bit of extra money for us."

  • How much prize money did Kyren Wilson win?

It's tough being a top sportsman.

    I would presume.

But it must be HUGELY satisfying getting your hands on the silverware at the end of a tough tournament.

Kyren Wilson also pockets a cool £100,000 in prize money. Some shift!

  • Crowning moment

Kyren Wilson with his second ranking title of the season.

You could see how much it meant to him and his family.

And at only 32 years of age, there's plenty of life in the big dog yet!

  • Taking the match balls home!

He'll head home with the Alex Higgins trophy and the £100,000 prize.

But Kyren Wilson is also taking home some extra memorabilia as a token of his big win.

He told EuroSport: "That's something we're going to do from now on.

"When I won the European masters we took the balls and the cloth.

"It's Stuart Bingham who started it actually, his snooker room has so much history. It's like a snooker museum, I want that!"

  • Wilson tribute

The champion signed off by paying tribute to his mum, who he revealed has overcome breast cancer.

Dedicating the win to her, he added: "I don't know where my mum is and she'll kill me for saying this but she's just got over breast cancer.

"We found out [she had it] round about the world championships, so to win that was amazing.

"So now, for her to spend the week here is brilliant. She's loved it."

  • Hear from the champion

Now it's Kyren Wilson's turn to react to tonight's final.

He says the ongoing battle with Judd Trump is good for snooker and paid tribute to his opponent.

He said: "I thought the only thing missing today was a century, so it ended with the icing on the cake.

"Judd summed it up perfectly there. I've not had the privilege of sampling this amazing atmosphere and venue. The fans have been amazing.

"Yeah it's amazing. What Judd's achieving recently is inspiring. To be as dominant as he has been with the standard on tour these days is phenomenal. I don't know where he gets the energy from."

  • More from Judd

He continued: "Yeah this tournament is incredible, it's one of my favourites. I always look forward to coming back here.

"I think it's Kyren's first time getting to the one-table here and it's one of, if not the, best venues to can play at. It's incredible."

  • Judd reacts

Judd Trump admits Kyren Wilson was 'too good' as he fell to a 9-3 defeat.

He was going in search of his 5th title in Belfast but had a mountain to climb after the first session.

He said: "It was obviously difficult coming back at 7-1 down but it was an amazing reception.

"It inspired me for one frame then I missed an easy ball!

"Kyren was just too good today and the way he's bounced back is inspiring and it's nice to see someone be able to kick on.

"Hopefully in the future we can have many more battles."

  • Kyren Wilson wins the Northern Ireland Open!

What a sensational performance from Kyren Wilson!

A 9-3 win over the world number one, Judd Trump to claim his eighth ranking title.

That's the World Champion's second success of the season!

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-119)

A break of 119 will have to do!

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-104*)

Century made! And he's bringing out the party tricks in his victory lap here.

    And he's not stopping yet!

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-67*)

Frame ball sent away and it's a little clench of the fist from Wilson.

Understated but you know it means a lot to him to clinch this one.

He has one eye on a century now.

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-66*)

He's now 66 ahead with 67 on the table, Wilson...

And he's still at the table!

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-44*)

An ongoing break of 44 for Wilson, who has opened the rack of reds up a bit and it's a very decent chance to put this beyond Judd.

Getting over the line is the hardest part, of course. Can he see it out from here?

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-1)

He spent a bit of time watching Trump plot his way around that 143 break.

So it'll do Wilson the world of good to sink a terrific long red into the green pocket to get off the mark in this frame.

Little chance to put a bit of a score together and take a stranglehold.

  • Trump 3-8 Wilson (0-0)

Kyren Wilson to break, can he get over the line in this frame?

  • Sensational Trump!

He ties the highest break of the tournament with a stunning 143 to close the gap.

What a contrast to the misses he had in the last frame.

It might not be enough to claw himself back into this one but still total class.

Wilson now leads 8-3 in this first to 9 bout.
